About Our Online Poetry Writing Workshop

Hosted by Malibu Poet Laureate Emeritus and Founder of The Poetry Vessel, Nathan Hassall, Poetry as Transformation is a 4-week online poetry writing workshop that focuses on writing poems about shadow and light, dreams, nature and ecology, and spirituality.

This curriculum is designed to draw transformative poems from you each week, based on Nathan’s 19 years of poetry writing, editing, and teaching experience. Prior to each session, you are provided with a reading packet, which includes a short essay written by Nathan, relevant quotes to the week’s themes, and many pages of contemporary and classic poetry that reflects the workings of the week. Reading this before sessions is recommended, but not mandatory.

Each session will begin with a guided meditation, a stream-of-consciousness exercise, a poetry reading and discussion, and guided writing prompts. By the end of each workshop, you will come away with 2-3 poem drafts, new poetry writing skills and insights, and experience the profound ways that reading and writing poetry can transform us emotionally and spiritually.

Join us for this 4-week online journey into the profound realms of poetry as transformation.
